Item #1   Tubus Lower Rack Mounting Kit

The Lower Rack Mounting Kit works with the Tubus Classic version rear racks -- the Cargo Classic, the Vega Classic, the new Logo 29er Classic, Fly Classic Stainless Steel, Cosmo Stainless, Logo Titan.

This kit is not intended for the new Tubus evo series racks, or other brands of racks that have single lower mounting holes.  The stainless steel brackets in this kit attach to the bottom of the Tubus racks with TWO bolts on each side.  The two-bolt attachments keep the extension perfectly aligned, and provided a stronger and more laterally rigid attachment than you will get if you try to use it with racks with single lower mounting holes.

Installed on the inside of the rack dropout, this system moves the rack up and back, providing greater heel clearance.  It can help you mount a rack on a bike where the eyelet is positioned in a poor place, such as directly beneath the end of a seatstay that is hanging out over a dropout eyelet.  And it may allow you to mount a rack on some bikes that have disc brakes in the way.   $13.00 Pair

Item #2   Quick Release Rack Mounting Kit

Quick Release Rack Adapter Quick Release Rack Adapter Quick Release Rack Adapter

The photos above are of a quick release mounting system that works with most of the Tubus rear racks.  This adapter allows you to mount a rack on a bike without lower rack mounting eyelets, such as a race bike.  In addition, it moves the rack toward the rear of the bike, greatly increasing heel clearance for panniers -- great for bikes with short chainstay lengths.  The adapter consists of a longer quick release mechanism, and the curved stainless steel brackets that slip over the quick release skewer and attach to rack.  $33.00 Set

Note that the QR Mounting Kit has a carrying capacity of 55 lbs (25 Kg).  So if you use a rack like the Tubus Cargo Classic which is rated at 88 lbs, you have just reduced the rack capacity to 55 lbs.  And if you use this kit on a racing bike with light weight rims and small volume tires, 55 lbs is unreasonably high!  Put this on an ultra-light titanium road racing bike, and I will likely suggest you keep the load under 15-20 pounds -- and you should increase your tire size to the largest that will fit within your brakes and chainstays to help cushion your rims when your wheels hit the railroad tracks.  This kit works with REAR racks only.  There is no QR Kit for Tubus front racks.

See the Quick Release Mounting Kit "in action."  Photos and instructions are on my Tubus Fly Rack page!

PLEASE NOTE!  The Tubus Quick Release Mounting Kit is designed specifically for Classic style Tubus racks with the Classic dropouts.  The stainless steel adapter plate attaches to the bottom of the rack with two mounting bolts on each side.  It is not considered compatible with the Tubus "evo" racks that have single mounting holes at the lower attachment points, or other brands of racks with single mounting holes at the bottom.  The two-bolt lower connection between the rack dropout and the stainless steel bracket keeps the connection from rotating, and provides extra strength and lateral rigidity to the system.  You might get such a rack to work with the QR kit, but you give up strength, carrying capacity, and especially lateral rigidity in the connection, and Tubus will not warranty or stand behind the fit.  Loss of lateral rigidity can cause bike handling problems, especially with top-heavy loads.  The QR kit is not recommended for non-Classic Tubus racks or non-Tubus racks in general.  The Quick Release Mounting Kit simply works better with the Tubus Racks it was designed to fit.

Item #3   Tubus Stay Mounting Clamps

Tubus Rack Stainless Seatstay Adapter Tubus Rack Stainless Seatstay Adapter Tubus Rack Stainless Seatstay Adapter Tubus Rack Stainless Seatstay Adapter

These stay clamps allow you to mount a rear rack to bikes that do not have mounting eyelets on the seatstays.  They come in several diameters, so you will need to tell me the diameter of the seatstays at the point where you will attach the mounting struts.  Made of stainless steel, they are much better quality than the old steel "P" clamps.  Also, they can remain on the frame when the rack is removed.  $9.00 Set

Rack Stay Adapter Sizes:  14mm ,  16mm,  18-19mm,  21-22mm  &  24-25mm

Note:  An easy way to measure seatstays, rack tubes and fork blade diameters is to use an adjustable wrench (also called a crescent wrench).  Dial it down on the tube, slide it off and measure the gap with a ruler -- preferably in millimeters, but standard is OK.  We can convert.

Item #4   Tubus Aluminum Alloy Fork Mounting Kit

For Standard Forks without Rack Mounting Eyelets

This Aluminum Alloy fork Mounting Kit allows you to attach a Tara, Ergo or Nova front rack to a fork that does not have rack mounting fittings on the side of the fork.   They are only to be used on steel and some aluminum forks.  You do NOT want to clamp onto carbon fiber forks, or some thin-walled aluminum front forks.  This adapter is for forks up to 1 1/8 inch in diameter.   Measure the fork blade diameter at a point 6 1/2 inches in a straight line above your lower eyelets behind the fork tips.  $22.00 Set

Item #5   Oversized Stainless Steel Fork Mounting Kit

Tubus Stainless Lowrider Fork Adapter Tubus Stainless Lowrider Fork Adapter Tubus Stainless Lowrider Fork Adapter Tubus Stainless Lowrider Fork Adapter Tubus Stainless Lowrider Fork Adapter

For OVERSIZED Forks without Rack Mounting Eyelets

This Stainless Fork Mounting Kit allows you to attach a Tara or Nova front rack to a fork that does not have rack mounting fittings on the side of the fork.   They are only to be used on steel and some aluminum forks.  You do NOT want to clamp onto carbon fiber forks, or some thin-walled aluminum front forks.  This adapter is for oversized diameter forks, above 1 1/8 inch in diameter.  You will want to measure and let me know the diameter of your fork.  Measure the fork blade diameter at a point 6 1/2 inches in a straight line above your lower eyelets behind the fork tips.  $22.00 Set

Item #6   Tubus Aluminum Upper Rack Mounting Stays

Tubus Offset Seatstay Mounting Strut Tubus 350mm (13 3/4") Extra Long Strut

Struts are available in several special bends and extra long lengths for unusual fits.   Look at the photo of a Cargo rack mounted on an extra small frame to see how the extra long 350mm mounting stays can reach extra low mounting points.  Note that the long stays in the Cargo photo above can be cut to the proper length after the rack is level, so they will not be sticking out of the top of the rack.  Call or email me for choices.  $17.50/Pair for 350mm Extra Long Straight Stays.     $13.00/Pair for 240mm Standard Length Straight Stays.    $13.00/Pair for 190mm Offset Bend Stays.

Note:  Tubus racks fit most bikes without needing any modifications, but some bike manufacturers place their seatstay rack mounting eyelets at a height that causes an upper rack mounting stay to interfere with the action of your rear brake.  Tubus uses solid aluminum rods for their upper mounting stays.  Aluminum mounting stays are relatively easy to bend.  If you find that a brake lever arm wants to occupy the same space as the mounting stay, it is OK to bend the mounting stay, so it will not be in the way.  Be sure to bend only on the round portion of the stay.  Never bend the flat portion where they have drilled the mounting hole -- that will weaken the stay at the point where it changes from flat to round.  I would suggest you use a piece of thick coat hanger wire and bend a template first, to be sure of the shape you will need, before you bend the mounting stay.  If possible, use a vise, pad the jaws to reduce scratches, and you will have a lot of control when making your bends.

Item #7   Fly or Luna Rack Mounting Stays

These mounting stays allow a single stay Fly or Luna rack to mount to dual seatstay eyelets or mounting clamps.  $12.00 Pair

They don't work in every situation.  Cantilever brakes may interfere with using these brackets, as the stay adapters come together right where the center cable meets the straddle cable.  You may want to ask about compatibility with your setup before you order.

Item #8   Help for Getting the Classic Rack Upper Rack Mounting Stays the Right Distance Apart

For the complete range of adjustment, simply flip the mounting blocks to place the mounting stays on the inside or outside of the mounting blocks.  This works on all of the Tubus racks with two mounting stays.
