Ortlieb Outer Pocket Dimensions: Each Outer Pocket adds 110 cubic inches (1.8 Liters) to a pannier (220 cubic inches per pair - 3.6 Liters). Height = 7.9 inches. Width = 4.7 inches. Depth = 3.0 inches. Weight = 3.7 ounces each.
Ortlieb Outer Pockets have a quick release attachment system that allows you to install or remove them as needed. You can add them to your panniers without pockets.
Ortlieb Outer Pockets are waterproof and dustproof due to their rolled top closure and waterproof fabric, and they have a highly reflective 3M Scotchlite patch.
Most tourists add a pair of Outer Pockets to their rear panniers - some to front and rear.

Mesh Pockets provide extra volume to stow wet or dirty gear, shoes or clothing on the outside of any Ortlieb touring panniers, and they can stay neatly folded while not in use.

Convert any Ortlieb pannier to a waterproof daypack! Eliminate the need to take an additional daypack on your ride.
Redesigned in 2010 – much more comfortable to wear! Now fits a wider range of shoulder widths. The padded, contoured, adjustable shoulder straps have a chest strap to keep them in position.
Very simple attachment. The pannier top hooks attach to D-rings on the top of the Carry System back panel. Special clips on the lower ends of the shoulder straps fasten to the bottom corners of the panniers.
Easy to stow. Rolls up when not in use. Takes up very little space when compressed.

Use mini padlocks (not included), and lock your panniers to your racks.
Specify LONG for the larger rear panniers, and SHORT for smaller front panniers. Note that the Ortlieb front panniers work well as smaller volume rear panniers.

NOT high security, but it does mean a thief must have a cutting tool to walk away with your panniers. So it may stop an impulse theft.

Any locksmith, and many hardware stores sell sets of locks that are keyed alike, so you can have one key that fits all of your mini padlocks locks.

Just about every day I get asked the question "are anti-theft cables a good idea?" The answer is YES, but only if you don't get a false sense of security because you have them. My best example . . . when you stop for a restroom break, you probably aren't going to carry two pairs of panniers and a handlebar bag inside the restroom. You'll take the handlebar bag with your valuables as a shoulder bag, but leave the panniers on your bike. The cables might keep someone who doesn't have a cutting tool from quickly walking away with your panniers before you get back to your bike. However, if you get lazy about unlocking your panniers and start to trust the cables to keep your bags and gear safe, then you might leave the panniers out of your sight for an extended period of time – and have them stolen – when you might have taken them off the bike and kept them with you if you didn't have the cables in the first place.

A single pannier requires one PAIR of top hooks and inserts.
Some folks who are going on epic tours plan for just about everything and like to carry spares. Ortlieb top hooks are quite strong and durable. The vast majority of my customers never need a replacement hook, but once in a while one gets broken in an accident (most of the time the hooks even survive crashes). If you are the cautious type, you might consider carrying a spare pair of hooks, especially if you are planning a world tour, or going on an off-road tour. Some of my customers will split a pair of hooks and put a third top hook on each of their rear panniers. Then they don't have to figure out where to carry their spares. A added benefit is that a third hook means there is an extra mechanism to open when you take the panniers off, potentially slowing down a thief during an attempt to lift one of your panniers from your rack.
