P-500 REAR Mount Superior Panniers . . .
- Lone Peak's patented "Loc-on" Panniers
Suspension System is
easy to use and very secure! Virtually indestructible, the hooks are designed
to wrap completely around the rack rails for maximum security. I have seen far
more complicated pannier mounting systems out there that do not work nearly as
well. This is a great hook design!
- 3200+ cubic inches/pair, top loading
- 4 exterior pockets (one of the pockets
is mesh for drying small items while you ride)
- Load compression straps
- 55
ounces for the pair I weighed
- Dual spindrift collar closure with draw-strings to keep contents dry
- Rigid back panel to keep pack out of spokes
- Loops sewn on top of lids for tying on extra equipment
- Floating lid to allow over-stuffing - This is one of the
nicest features of the P-500. Imagine being on a tour, late in the day,
and you want to stop at a grocery store for a few extra supplies for the
evening. With the draw string top and floating lid, you can over-stuff
the main compartment - even allowing some items to stick out a bit. Just
secure the floating lid over your items to hold them in place. You will
really appreciate the flexibility. This is why there is a "+" next
to the listed capacity.
- These are Lone
Peak’s highest volume panniers with lots of pockets for organizing your gear. If
I was going on a long self-supported tour, and needed to carry a lot of gear,
this is the pair I would choose. The draw-string top loading main compartment
allows greater ease in loading, and some flexibility in volume - great when you
need to carry some extra items. They look HUGE in the photos, but that is
because they are stuffed to the max with bubble wrap to show just how much they
can carry. They probably won’t appear to be quite as large when loaded for your
tour
- The rigid back panel measures about 10 inches wide by 13 inches tall. One
corner is angled for heel clearance. The main compartment is about 5 to 6 inches
deep when packed fairly flat. The outside pocket adds another 2-3 inches,
depending on how the main compartment is filled. When packed very full, as in my
photos above, these packs can extend 4-6 inches above the level of the rear
rack.
- A Note On the Color Blue . . .
Lone Peak has not been offering the P-400 or P-500 Panniers in
Blue. Because I do a high volume with Lone Peak, they agreed to do a
custom run in Blue just for me. You won't find them in Blue anywhere
else!
Will a sleeping bag or tent fit in the main compartment?
- I took a P-500 Pannier to an outdoor store and discovered the following: A
rolled sleeping bag that measured 15 inches long by 8 inches in diameter, and 24
inches in circumference, fit perfectly in the main compartment without having to
force it in - and the drawstring top closed easily. You could probably increase
each of those measurement by an inch and still get it in the pack, as sleeping
bags can be stuffed into tight spaces. It definitely rounds out the main
compartment, but it left room in the other pockets for gear. A bagged 2 person
tent with poles that measured 16 inches long by 6 inches in diameter also fit
very nicely. Any longer would probably interfere with the top lid closing
properly, although another inch in length will probably do fine. With the tent
in the pack there was still room left in the sides of the main compartment. I
found several inexpensive tents and sleeping bags that fit easily - so you won’t
have to break your budget finding gear that fits. You still may choose to tie
your bedroll and tent onto the top of the rack, so that you will have LOTS of
room for the rest of your gear.
Lone Peak Facts . . .
- These are First Quality, BRAND NEW packs, Made in
USA by a US Company with all Made in USA Materials, with a Lifetime Warranty -
NOT closed out, store displays, discontinued, or factory seconds!
- These expedition quality packs are made of 1000 Denier "Cordura
Plus" fabric, ounce for ounce the toughest material around. The fabric is
impregnated with weatherproof polyurethane, for extra durability and
protection from the elements. Lone Peak reinforces high wear areas with "Coverlight."
The Coverlight material is highly abrasion, puncture, and tear resistant. All
the webbing used is 100% Nylon Webbing, which is stronger and more abrasion
resistant than inexpensive polypropylene webbing you may find on other packs.
All attachment and stress points are triple stitched with #92 Bonded Nylon
Thread. In addition to the waterproof fabric, the main compartment seams have
a 3/4 inch nylon binding over the inside of the seam for extra water
protection, so your gear stays nice and dry!
- Lone Peak does not tolerate seam failures. They sew every
seam twice, once during the initial sewing process, then a second time when
the seams are covered with Nylon Seam Binding, to prevent seam fraying and
increase overall durability. The zippers are large #8 Self-repairing Coil
Zippers with extra durable nickel sliders and quiet cord pull tabs. For added
visibility Lone Peak uses 3M Scotchlite Reflective Tape.
- I sold Lone Peak Packs in my bike shop for about 7 years.
In that time I NEVER had to send one in for a warranty. These are great packs.
You won't be disappointed!
